Background: Barefoot in
the Park first premiered as a movie in 1963
starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.
It is a romantic comedy about a couple who
have to the harsh realities of post-honeymoon
married life. Paul Bratter is the conservative
young lawyer and Corie is his spirited newlywed
wife.
They had a memorable honeymoon at the PLaza,
and they are moving into a small walk up
apartment in Greenwich village. But there
are more problems than just the size of
the apartment. Paul wants to keep a low
profile while Corie is all young blood and
wants to live up her life.
They not only have their own basic differences
but the sober lifestyle to get used to.
Barefoot in the Park boasts of hot hollywood
stars as Amanda Peet and Patrick Wilson.
Amanda Peet was seen in Something's Gotta
Give and The Whole Nine Yards and also
in the play This Is How It Goes by Neil
LaBute. Patric Wilson, on the other hand,
is a Toni nominee known for hits as Oklahoma
and The Full Monty. He was seen in The
Phantom of the Opera lately. Then there
is Jill Clayburgh as Corie's mother and
Tony Roberts as the eccentric neighbor
Victor Velasco.
Scott Elliott is the prized director,
known for The Women and Hurlyburly. Barefoot
in the Park is only the second play by
Neil Simon.The previews start in late
January on Broadway. It is the play's
first Broadway outing since 1963, then
as a movie. Backed by the past success
as a movie and the present star cast it
promises to be a sell out. So get your
tickets from an on-line ticket vendor,
if you don't want to miss the show.
