Artist:
Danny Gans at Mirage
Genera: Las Vegas
Background: One second
he's Ricky Martin, the next, Smokey Robinson,
then Joe Cocker, James Brown, and Blood,
Sweat and Tears.
And that's just the first minute. You could
come across George Bush lamenting the politics
of his son, "Dubya." Or George
Burns, who's gotten a hold of some Viagra.
But Gans does more than simply supply impressions.
He becomes his subject, his voice slipping
easily from character to character, adding
his own comedic touches - a duet between
Jimmy Stewart and Kermit the Frog is priceless;
Danny Gans's "Hakuna Matata"
as sung by Frank Sinatra, ingenious.
Danny Gans is a master at capturing the
nuances of the artists he imitates. And
with a repertoire of more than 300 characterizations,
you never know who'll appear next.
In addition to performing dead-on impersonations
of George Bush, Billy Joel, David Bowie
and Bruce Springsteen, Gans also excels
at more obscure impressions, including Macy
Gray, Billie Holliday and Darius Rucker
of Hootie & the Blowfish. Gans' own
voice is pretty famous, too -- he sings
a few of his own songs during the show and
in 2000, and he recorded an album that climbed
to #19 on the Christian pop charts.
Although Gans is no longer involved in pro
sports, his annual golf invitational raises
money for Boys Town Nevada, and he also
funds the Danny Gans Golf Academy which
allows children to learn how to play golf
for free. Looks like whether he's on the
stage or in the community, Gans knows how
to hit a home run.
