Artist:
Jerry Seinfeld
Genre: Theater
Background: Jerry Seinfeld
was already a success as a stand-up comedian
when he co-created the hit TV sitcom Seinfeld
in 1990.
In the show Seinfeld played himself, a single
comic in New York coping with the trivialities
of modern life. (The show co-starred Michael
Richards as Kramer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
as Elaine, and Jason Alexander as George
Costanza.) The show became a huge hit for
NBC, but Seinfeld called it quits in 1998
while he was still earning some of TV's
best ratings and reviews.
By virtue of a show about "nothing,"
Jerry Seinfeld has carved a permanent place
in contemporary society. Hit status is coveted
by every entertainer in show business yet
realized by an infinitesimal few. Who is
not familiar with the term "master
of your domain," "close talker,"
"ribbon bully," or "Festivus"?
