Artist:
Menopause
Genre: Musical
Background: Menopause the
Musical is a musical on menopause. Simple.
That is the secret of the wholesome fun
that the performance delivers. That makes
it one of the most successful shows and
renders its tickets unavailable. The intelligent
parody has the humor to make the worst sufferers
smile. The story is built around a lingerie
sale in Bloomingdale where four suffering
women meet. One of them is a power professional,
another a Iowa housewife, a ex-hippie still
lost in the sixties, and at last an aging
soap opera star. They have a few things
in common-a black lace bra, hot flashes,
memory loss, night sweats and obviously
not enough sex. What follows is menopausal
brouhaha.
Its a wonderfully articulated and perfectly
co-ordinated performance. There are 28
"re-lyriced" hit songs from
the '60s and '70s which comprise the score.
These supply maximum humor the the performance.
Irving Berlin’s “Heat Wave”
is turned into “I’m Having
a Hot Flash,” whereas “My
Guy” ribticklingly becomes “My
Thighs.”
Jeanie Linders has laid out the plot
with utmost expertise. The innumerable
tracks never turn boring. The plot is
simple and engrossing. The cast is a group
of perfects in Lynn Eldredge, Megan Thomas,
Sally Ann Swarm and Joy Lynn Matthews.
Joy Lynn Matthews, who is the Power Woman,
is a treat with her amazing, powerhouse
voice. Then there is Lynn Eldredge as
the Earth Mother. She engages us with
her perfect comic timing. Melodie Wolford
is simply lovable as the Iowa Housewife
who is on her first trip to the big city.
At last, Sally Ann Swarm as the Soap Star
seems to rock.
Menopause delivers what it promises.
One and a half hours of non-stop fun.
Its devoid of any profundity or any wise
insight. Its aimed to make you hoot at
the 'hot' days. That it does with aplomb.

tickets are hard to get when it comes
these performers.
