Artist:
The Ark
Genre: Musical
Background: The Ark is
the new offering by the magical Michael
McLean and Kevin Kelly. Michael McLean has
also written the book that the play is based
upon. The credit for the great music and
lyric also go to him. The USP of the show
is its novelty. No wonder the show is a
frequent sell-out. So getting the endangered
tickets is a wild-goose chase.
The Ark is a twenty first century take
on the classic Noah's Ark story. To quote
the press release, "Living inside
the now infamous floating community to
escape a drowning world, we see that when
facing the challenges of life, we're all
in the same boat." The play is novel,
wonderful and has brilliant fresh insights
into the oft-told story. Its gonna be
hard to shake off once you are through
it. It delivers to us the backstory of
Noah's family. That is pure and unexplored
terrain. That is why is something worth
looking forward to.
The music is as wide in variety as the
situations in the play. It is gospel,
contemporary, pop and much more. The music
is always adapted to the play and adds
to the over all experience. The composer
of all this music is one man- McLean.
The lyrics are by Kelly. She is an associate
producer of the Donny and Marie TV Show
and a professor at Brigham Young University.
The cast is a wonderful line up of experts
- Annie Golden, Adrian Zmed, Marie-France
Arcilla, D.B. Bonds, Justin Brill and
Julie. Ray Roderick is the choreographer
and director. Joe Baker is the man behind
musical direction and compositions. Its
once in a year event and people are thronging
to it.
