Background: Wonderful Town
is based on Ruth Sherwood's autobiographical
book My Sister Eileen, which tells the story
of how these two young women from Ohio came
to Greenwich Village at the height of the
Great Depression, determined to take the
big city by storm. They find romance and
careers, against the colorful backdrop of
'30s bohemian society. Songs include "Ohio,"
"100 Ways to Lose a Man," and
"Wrong Note Rag."
The highly anticipated revival of the 1953
musical, with music by Leonard Bernstein
and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green,
is based on the Encores! production from
May 2000. Donna Murphy stars; Kathleen Marshall
directs and choreographs.
